Manual De Instrucciones

12-16-2024

Drawing from childhood stories and the practice of generational storytelling this short film shows a narrative that comes from these ideas. The title Manual de Instrucciones comes from the book Historias de Cronopios y de Famas written by Julio Cortázar.

This was a significant book that during my childhood became one of my favorites to read. The narrative tells us about these hypothetical creatures and how they act, but we never know how they look or if they even exist, we just know how they act. From this standpoint, my younger brother loves to read, and I decided to create a video of me reading to him, a book from my childhood.

This video ended up in him reading to me which created a whole new approach to our family practice of storytelling. The method to create this short was via rotoscoping, stop motion, and superimposition of different videos.
